plast alger 2010: A promising kick-off towards an Algerian plast market full of opportunities

A positive outlook on future business, a very successful conference with high-profile attendees, in conjunction with a very good organisation taking care about every single little detail left the exhibitors satisfied, when Algeria’s Premier International Euro-Mediterranean Plastics and Chemical Industry Trade Fair  – plast alger 2010  - closed its doors. “Satisfied” with the quality of business contacts initiated, these were the final remarks of the great majority of the exhibitors from 10 countries participating, among them many multinational heavyweights.

Exhibitors showcased their innovations especially in the fields of plastics processing machinery and technology, equipment and services. As such plast alger succeeded to become an important showcase of technological innovations, developments and trends right from its very start. The exhibitors came from Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Tunisia and Turkey. The strongest participation to the event was the Austrian pavilion. Said Ulrike Straka, commercial counsellor with the Austrian Embassy: “The strong presence of 11 Austrian exhibitors is only logic as our companies have a lot to offer especially for the constantly growing Algerian plast industry.”

Held in Algiers from 2 to 4 May 2010 with 314 visitors from 12 countries and 29 exhibitors from 11 countries, this ever first plast alger has also achieved to attract excellent presenters and a very good number of participants to the conference on “Technological challenges for the plast industry on the way to a sustainable development”, held in the Hilton Alger on May 4, 2010. Speakers and attendees of the conference derived from Algeria, Austria, France, Germany, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.

In addition to the managing directors of nearly all leading Algerian plast industrialists, they included representatives of:

  • Cabinet d’Expertise Industrielle Halfaoui, Algeria
  • REME Rèseau des Entreprises Maghrébines pour l’Environnement
  • The Algerian Ministry of Industry and Investment Promotion – MIPI
  • The president and vice-president of the Algiers Chamber of Commerce and Industry CACI
  • The secretary-general and a section president of the Moroccan Plastics Association AMP
  • The Moroccan Technical Center for Plastics and Rubber
  • The president and the secretary-general of the Tunisian Chemical and Plastics Association
  • The German-Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AHK Alger
  • fairtrade as the organisers of plast alger 2010
  • CARMA France, Centre d'Animation Régional en Matériaux Avancés
  • Allizé-Plasturgie (Alliance Zone Est Plasturgie) representing more than 700 plast enterprises, France

plast alger 2010 took place on the background of massive investments into the Algerian plastics and chemical industry, as well as a sharp increase in demand in technologies and equipment.

With a growth rate of 4.5 % in 2009, the Algerian plastics industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Algerian industry, and one of the most important ones. Its growth is driven manifold: by huge governmental projects and infrastructural investments (hydraulics, building and construction, energy, agriculture, gas tubes, …), as well as by industrial sub-contracting and the demand for packaging materials.

plast alger 2010 has been held in parallel to printpack alger 2010, Algeria’s 2nd International Printing and Packaging Technology Trade Fair, held  in Pavilion „B“ at the Palais des Expositions d'Alger – Safex. An excellent synergy for all visitors and exhibitors alike.

The event had been organised by the German trade fair specialists fairtrade and its German-Algerian team. fairtrade operates a daughter company in Algiers already since 2003. ISO 9001:2008 certified, and being a member of UFI The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, fairtrade organises events according to the UFI quality norms.

Outlook on the 4th plast expo 2011 in Casablanca, Morocco

The next major plast event in the Maghreb – the 4th International Plastics and Rubber Industry Exhibition for Morocco and North Africa plast expo 2011 - will take place at the International Fairgrounds in Casablanca, Morocco. Organised by the Moroccan Plastics Association AMP in cooperation with Forum 7 and fairtrade, it is here, where decision makers from the industry, technical experts, technology leaders and trade meet to network and to do business!

Already at plast expo 09, held on June 2 to 5, 2009 in Casablanca, exhibitors had praised the very good quality of visitors and plenty of new business leads. With 2.058 registered trade visitors from 27 states discussing business with 102 exhibitors from 19 countries, plast expo worked out successfully as the Euro-Mediterranean gateway to Africa.

Excellent news: in October 2009, the organisers have “earned the ‘UFI Approved Event’ quality label for plast expo as certification of the highest level of professional exhibition standards” (UFI The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry).

As the provision of data which have been verified by independent auditors is one of the cornerstones of the quality standards of UFI Approved Events, all plast expo statistical data have been and will be audited by an independent auditing firm.
